first off, you should never ever, under any circumstance, overdose on Tylenol, too much acetaminophen can be very dangerous, same with too much of anything. On that note be careful when combining medication because they might have the same chemicals in common which can be even worse. But more specifically, there are two kind of problems when it comes to difficulty sleeping: not being able to fall asleep and not being able to stay asleep. Yours, apparently is the former. I would recommend not to be nervous about not being able to fall asleep because that anxiety will perpetuate your situation. Also, if you have something important at 8:30am, depending what it is, sleep might not even be critical, usually a bad night of sleep, or conversely a good night of one, effects not how you feel in the morning, but the morning after. So this is what you should do:
1. Relax
2. Turn off all noise and avoid light
3 if you still can't sleep you should get up and move around(even though this seems counter-intuitive) expose yourself to light and do a easy activity such as sudoku, read a book or something of that nature. The purpose of this, is to reset your brain and help you get into the phase before sleep. If all else fails, barring you have a serious sleeping condition which you would have noticed by now, you could be sick so NyQuil helps these symptoms. Hope this helps!

Some people count Sheep.
Anyway, you can try this. Lay down your bed, close your eyes and just observe your breathing. Count in your mind, one at a time, as you slowly breathe in (1 count) and breathe out (2 count)...Do it continuously.
You will soon find yourself falling asleep. Do give it a try.
