what would be the problem with my external hard drive if it will connect to another computer just fine with the cable and power source but wont connect up to my mac mini?

the mac it wont connect up to is a Mac Mini PowerPC with OSX
the computer it would connect up to is a MacBook pro
it is firewire and i mean that the computer wont recognize that it is even hooked up, but the Macbook it works fine with
wut could be wrong with the Mac Mini?

What do you mean it won't connect up? As it won't power up? Your Mac won't recognize it?
If your Mac doesn't recognize it, did you perhaps unplug the drive before you ejected it off your desktop?
Is the external a firewire or a usb?

Is the other computer a mac or a pc?..........The hardrive might be formated in a manner the mac can't read?........I don't know if that's possible but it sounds logical to me. If you really didn't want to buy another hardrive, you could see if you can reformat the disk.................(if you get another external hardrive make sure it has firewire..........firewire ROCKS!)

You might not have the necessary drivers installed on your mini. Was the other computer a mac as well? It could also be that it's not formatted for a mac.
