what is a DATA call from a cell phone?

someone or something called my cell phone and it said it was a private data call.. i didnt get to it in time to answer it, but i'm left very curious as to what a DATA call even is! ... what is it?

most of the time a data call in ref to a cell is used in dialing up to a modem such as using you phone as a modem to dial up to an ISP .. dont bother with trying it though most of the time average speed is about 9k bps so its slower than normal dial up .. if you got the call then probably someone was either playing with there cell and dialed your number or mistakenly put in you number when trying to dial there isp from there PC...
