I took my ferret to the vet and found out her spleen is swollen, vet gave her some meds to reduce swelling. Couple months later spleen still swollen, now she's losing her hair, and is looking anorexic, even though she's eating regularly and drinking plenty of fluids. She's 7yrs. old already, and her partner died 2 yrs. ago what shall I do. Thniking of outting her to sleep.

She has Spleenomegily........... It's not going to get much better...... My first one had it we did surgery she lasted about another year before going Adrenal....... It's common in older female Ferrets............

It's best to have her Put down... she'll be in less pain that way

Your ferret is a "senior citizen" of the ferret world. It is very common for ferrets (especially aged ones) to have adrenal problems. Most times there is a surgery that can eliminate the disease.

Have you discussed with your veterinarian any surgical options? Most offer payment plans if you cannot afford on at this time. Then again...there is the age to think about. It is a hard decision to make but YOU will have to make it. :( Some ferrets live till they are 5...some till they are 10 or even 11!

For now, before you go to see the vet again, buy a tub of Duck Soup or a tube of FerriVite (a 'high calorie vitamin' made by 8in1) it may help to boost her up a bit until you make your decision.

Good luck and take care of that fuzz-butt!

Something is causing the spleen to swell... Go back to your vet and ask him/her to run some detailed blood work to find out what is the cause. Is surgery and option? If it's killing her slowly best to put her down easy, don't prolong the suffering... I had 2 ferrets Romeo and Juliet best pets I ever owned...Kept me in stitches from morning until night..
Best of Luck to you whatever the choice may be

ask your vet if removing the spleen will help. Some times that makes things all better.

it sounds like she has adrenal disease.very common in ferrets especially Marshall ferrets.you vet of course will need to make that call however, you may want to get her accustomed to 'duck soup when she starts to loose her appetite you can at least feed hae something substantial.
mix together ensure vanilla i can,1/2 cup of her food 1/2 cup of powdered milk and1 1/2 cup of water.
you will need to imprint this food on your ferret. They dont like change so she will probably not like it at first. put a little on her noes every once in a while to make her taste it.good luck

see if you can get another vets opinion on what to do since the first vet's treatment didn't help her. if you have no other option then putting her to sleep to end her suffering may be the best thing you can do for your poor girl. i hope she gets better.
