I have to agree. I think your President is oblivious to the obvious. There is an awful lot of damage he can do in the next 18 months and I feel for your country. I know that we will feel the heat from this 'fire' as well. We have already endured incidents of 'friendly fire,' I wonder what will happen when we experience something of a more Infernal Affair. Steven Harper is Bush's yesman, make no mistake. When he came into government he was stroking the Geo-ego pretty hard to make up for Jean Chretien's desire to keep his own butt out of the fire. Our border, here, is not so porous as the one south of you is. We are scrutinized, queried and detained for quite a time awaiting approval. One small slip, like asking to go to the bathroom and they tear your car apart. Guess who gets to clean up that mess?
The links below are for an opinion (much like the ones of many Canadians here, but more insightful.) The other for a gaff where President Bush is tooting his own horn about clamping down on illegals while a bunch of them escape over the fence behind him.

You know this is the problem with our great country. Look at the thumbs up/down votes. Anyone that talks positive about the President gets a down while some leftest winnie gets thumbs up. If some of you would take the time to really study world history, the history of this great country you might get an understanding as to why we are at war. We are not killing innocent Iraqi's, we are killing Muslim extremists. The people that fly planes into building rather then stand up and fight. These people do not like this country, our beliefs, our religion, our way of life, or any other thing that deals with us. Another thing try moving to one of these countries and say the same thing about them, you would be dead. Someone would kidnap you and then leave your dead body on the street. All of you ***** about this country, then leave, you are free to. Those of us that have served in the military fought for your right to talk this way. If you do not like it then get the HELL out and see what it is like in those countries you love so much.

I have to agree with beefcake's answer on this. Conservatism is a grasp and understanding of the value of every human being and the fact that when they earn money, they should be able to keep as much of it as possible so they can gain independence. We believe in smaller government etc etc. Yeah the border patrol thing was an absolute sham. But to me it shows how liberal our judges have become. the ACLU is a very powerful liberal minded organization and they are winning more and more of these ridiculous cases. Bush is not conservative at the way he has let government grow. We have so many over blown useless bureaucracies that if removed we would never miss them and we could easily balance the budget. But I back Bush on his stance on the war against radical Islamic fundamentalists who use terror tactics to kill anyone who believes in individual freedom. The liberals who run the democratic party have a plan that scares the hell out of me. Cut and run and the way they want to do it, by bleeding the troops of what the need to protect theirselves makes me ashamed of them.Because they don't care if what they say and do emboldens the enemy. It's clear that they want this war over at any cost in case they win the white house in 08 because it is not in their nature to have to fight for world wide freedom. None of what they believe in is based in reality. Socialism will not work. All their would be presidental nominnes have said raising taxes is at the top of their agenda. To try and tax a country into prosperity is like a man standing in a large bucket trying to lift himself off the ground by pulling on the handle. No my friend we need less government and one that is strong enough to enforce the immigration laws that are already on the books and yes even lower taxes! Especially in a time of war. One of the reasons we have not done better in Iraq is because of liberal interference. Ok I better stop although I could go on and on lol

I agree with you.
Bush and the republicans, and the close to 50% of the American voters who voted for Bush badly hurt the US economy, and the integrity of the country when they opt to go to a senseless war in Iraq. The country is in the red with a bleeding economy, a tragic deficit and thousands of dead in the name of democracy.
But let's not forget the multiple of scandals that is rocking the Bush administration.
The latest being the Gonzales fiasco.
Conservative my a$$.
They are only conservative when it comes to coming up with the money and help towards to the victims of Katrina.

Conservative and George Bush should not be used in the same sentence. He is a moderate Republican. Conservatives, like myself, support him because he was, and is, the only possible choice to keep America the best country in the world by remembering what made it the best and following those guidelines. The liberals of the country would love to, and are trying to, take this country into a downward spiral to socialism. That is why conservatives must support anyone who keeps the country out of liberal power.

You read too much CNN, et al. Ever taken a class on economics? The secret to a strong economy is not taxes, it is three hundred million people having more money to spend, and spending it. I don't agree with his border policy, but I know plenty of dumbocrats that think the border should be entirely open, so what now? At least he has a plan, unlike all you blow hard, loser lovers in the left.

The problem isn't with conservatives not being conservative but with Republicans losing touch with their conservative base. Republicans are becoming more and more moderate. Read up on Pat Buchanon. A real conservative.

Bush took the country to war,, then said to the people,, "go forth and shop",,, spend money,,, so the economy will soar here in the USA,, I'll try to kill as many innocent Iraqi people as I can,, and cause them to live in squalor,,, then the rich can trample the rest of the poor,,, this is my creed!
