How were the 1920's an age of intolerance? They were called so many different things!

I think the main reason is probably because of The Prohibition.

In the 1920's a law was passed making alcohol illegal.

Interesting thing was, it was that law that led to nation-wide gangs and the Mafia having the importance they have now. They supplied the illegal alcohol, which got them an incredible amount of money, and they spread throughout the US. Before that, gangster activity was limited to cities like New York and Chicago.
