Right now, he has the stats. But if Kobe , who is better then MJ in the fundamentals department, can prove that he's a team leader and wins just 2 or 3 more rings, MJ could be in trouble as far as "The Best" is concerned. Lots of people think that Magic is the best! He did lots of crazy thing in his day too. Taking a team to the championship without your star center in your rookie year is crazy, and nobody but Magic has done that!!!

First define "best" MJ was ONE of the best but you must remember as a team sport he did nothing until Pippen showed up 1 and 2 if it weren't for Paxson hitting a three he would have lost that year.

Oscar Robinson AVERAGED !! a triple double. That is amazing in itself. Averaging double digits in rebounding as a guard and also scoring and handing out assists. So he was good for 40-50 points and 10+ boards EVERY game. Also Bill Russell was a defensive monster as well as Wilt being an offensive monster. Magic and Bird are also up there as well as my favorite Dr. J.

I don't think you can say best ever in a team sport. All of my above named men where "the best" when they played and they all changed games with their presence.

In 10+ years this generation will be saying Kobe and LeBron were the best ever.

My opinion... Big O, Dr. J, MJ, then surprise !!!! Rick Barry. Oh yea how about Pistol Pete

Michael Jordan is not the best player to ever play in the NBA...are we forgetting Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlin, Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Magic Johnson, and Bill Russel...I believe MJ never scored over 70 ...Wilt did that twice...and he is the only man to score 100 in a game...so i would have to go with Wilt...

MJ ....again.....yawn....Stat wise...no he is not the best..
Bill Russell has alot more Championships...Kareem has more points..and Wilt Chamberlain is regarded as the greatest scorer.....sooo!

The real question is... if MJ is the best, what made him "the best?"

ps: this guy above me does'nt know to much about B-Ball..
"all they did was dunk it".....only a fool would say that....they(Bill and Wilt)played against HOF bigmen..to many to list...plus Bill Russell was only 6'9...and he DID IT ALL!
score! 20ppg...rebound! 20rpg.block shots!..10blpg(at least)
steal..5stpg...and assist..5aspg....so stat wise Bill was by far the greatest!....and if it's easier to dominate as a big man..
How come Yao Ming aint DOMINATING!....he's 6"...taller then
Shaq?

Yeah, based on decade. 90's is his but I feel Magic Johnson is better as he got the championship in his rookie year. If Magic didn't have aids, maybe things would be different if MJ vs Magic in the 90's MJ won't be that dominant.

Of course he is. Back in the old days it was too easy for Russell, Chamberlain and those guys. All they did was dunk and overpowere everyone. Jordan could shoot, play d. He had the whole package, not that those guys didnt but its easier being a big man to dominate.

Well, Bill Russell equalled MJ's 5 MVPs. HOWEVER, Russell almost doubled MJ's rings, with 11.

To answer your question, no.
