Hi all you bookworms!

I'm looking for Adult (or Young Adult) fiction, perferably with a Fantasy spin.

I'm looking for something relatively long, also. (At least 250 pagesish)

I enjoy storylines with unlikely friendships, angst, or good twists. Even "mind-candy" is exceptable, as long as its well-written.

Some examples that I've enjoyed before are:

"Beauty", "The Gift" and most of Gaiman's novels.

Thanks for the help!

I really loved the Bartimaeus trilogy by Jonathan Stroud (Amulet of Samarkand, Golem's Eye, Ptolemy's Gate). Also A Great and Terrible Beauty by Libba Bray and its sequel Rebel Angels...the third book Sweet Far Thing will be out next fall. Twilight and New Moon are great by Stephenie Meyer; the third book in the series, Eclipse, will be out in August/September.

You DO NOT have to be a dungeons and dragons fan for the books i'm about to suggest (keep that in mind please!).

R.A. Salvatore is by far my favorite author to date. Anything he's written in forgotten realms is brilliant (avoid the War of the Spider Queen set however, as it's only edited by him, not written). If you do choose his books, the beginning of his longest running character is the Icewind Dale Trilogy, but you can read the Dark Elf Trilogy first to gain background on said character. He's also written stuff for Del Rey Publishing as well (not sure on how that stuff is, HARD to find).

Other authors i suggest are Margaret Weis/Tracy Hickman(Dragonlance Chronicles), Richard A Knaak(Done both Dragonlance and Forgotten Realms), Elaine Cunningham (Forgotten Realms and various side projects), Robert Jordan (Wheel of time Series), Terry Brooks (Shannara Series, starts with Elfstones of Shannara), and Keith Baker (Eberron Campeign Setting. Newer author, but grand books)

My husband got me hooked on Robert Jordan's "The Wheel of Time" series they tend to be around 800+ pages. I found that I enjoy it. Sometimes drags a bit in the begining of the books, but the long read is worth it. The first book is "The Eye of the World". It is geared towards females and males a bit of action a bit of romance.

Alanna:The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce is about a girl and her boy twin switching places so she can be a Lady Knight and he can be a wizard. She has fights with bullies almost everyday and I started to pity her almost everyday... also an unlikely betrayal in the fourth book of this quartet... and a good twist to who she marries! (Fantasy)
Sabriel by Garth Nix is about a girl searching for her father and inheriting a high role in the kingdom and meeting a strange (handsome) prince and a weird pet in her action-packed adventure! (SciFi)

that's all the books that I thought were good enough for you...
sorry that I couldn't give you more!

I just finished reading these three by Scott Westerfeld:
UGLIES, PRETTIES, SPECIALS
They take place about 300 years into the future, a civilization created in response to man's destruction of the world as we know it now.

I liked them because they made me think about the effects of living in a world where conformity is expected and individuality is discouraged.

Would I rebel against the system? Or, would I allow myself to be drawn into the mindless, endless fun odyssey of the pretties?
