Glad you clarified a few things. Given your father-in-law's impaired mental capacity, your husband's efforts on his behalf or a bit more understandable. However, my original answer to you isn't changed. You still need to have that "talk" so that he can balance his attention a little bit more evenly. Understand, too, that your father-in-law is not going to be there forever, and how bad would you feel if you deprived your husband of the extra attention he is giving him now?

I get your grief. It's justifiable. Especially because your husband has so much time on his hands right now and you need some support on the home front while you are working. This isn't an easy situation, but you sound like a good wife and person - you'll survive and succeed, I'm sure. Hang in there and remember: communicate and listen.

Then maybe you should try and work a way out that all three of you can spend time together. Or if his father is by himself maybe talk to him about moving in with the two of you. If this is out of the question then maybe you should talk to your husband. Ask him if there is any way you two can have a date night every week. Just the two of you... This way you two are getting your time together. This way at least during the rest of the week you can count on one night that he will be all yours...
I also think that its wonderful of you not to try and make him choose. If only more people were so able to think of others first this world would be a much nicer place..
I wish the both of you the best....
Ill keep you and your family in my prayers tonight.

I think you should leave things be, and don't make your man choose, it makes you seem to pushy.
