The reservation system was brought into highlight keeping into mind that earlier the low caste people were the ones who were poor. How could their children manage to get better education? In order for the better prospect of their offsprings, the reservation system was introduced. Later the law found out that there are few more groups falling into the category. They added in more groups.
It is difficult in our country the manage the reservation system in terms of the income of the family because the government calculates the income based on the taxes paid by the person earning in the family. And, we donot have much of the honest tax payers in the country. Hence based on few acturial facts, the law laid down the system of reservation.
Now its upto us, the citizens to use it wisely. If I belong to one of those ANAMAT groups and I am financially capable availing my education on monetory terms, it becomes my duty not to show in my caste certificate to avail the benefit and save the seat for some other needy person. But for my financial benefits, I won't do that. Finally it's the act of a citizen affecting the other citizen and not the law.
Besides, the governemnt just offers relaxation in age and grades criteria for the reserved quota. The actula count of these minorities count up around 30% of the population altogether (SC, ST, OBC, state quotas, etc.) I don't think the system of reservation would fail if we citizens are honest enough, specially the ones who enjoy the benefits of reservations.
The government offers us a few aids that affects its revenues. It's upto us to decide whther we want to use that revenue on our own benefit or on the countrys development.
All the best...
:-)

The reservation though (I Hope) introduced with idea of bringing into mainstream, that section of the Indian society who had been for long outside it, is currently a devious tool in the area of Vote bank politics.
In argument to an above comment, would like to say that while there may too meagre a number of SC/STs holding high positions in the social/government organizations. The path of reservation does not in anyway improve that lot. The correct approach to eradicate dissimilarity and discripancies is through affirmative actions and preparing all right from the basic level to be ready for equal oppurtunities

Hi Keerthi,
I can understand your emotions.
Even I belong to BC (but Creamy layer) so I come under General category. Despite good attempts in various govt exams I am not able to clear. Whereas my friends (belonging to SC/ST) are able to bcoz of reservation. This is one side of the story.
We must also see the other side, for so many long years - during independence, before that say from 1800 to 1950, these people have been suppressed by the upper caste people. They have not been allowed access to education, jobs etc;
I will ask you one question:
"How many brahmins are involved in jobs like - Sewage clearance, Ward boys in hospitals, Mortuary workers and other minimal jobs?",
"How many SC/ST's are there in big positions in Government offices? Like Justice / DIG - IG of Police / Collectors".
Compare the percentage, you will find most of these people are still a long way to go - with respect to developing their status in the society.
Although, it is disappointing for us, we must accept it for the true development of the society.

Surely it is a process of pushing back the country towards illiteracy. There could be no alternative reason than winning votes to rule. Government can at the most accommodate free education, books and anything money related. But even then if one doesn’t prove oneself up to the mark and get place instead of worthy one then it is purely a malicious dictatorship.
