Well they certainly deserve more respect than being called "retards", for one. Like someone said earlier, people are people.
It doesn't matter if they can't count to ten or tie their own shoes, they deserve the same respect as anyone else and I'm still always apalled by people who don't believe that.
(I work with the developmentally disabled and the elderly, so the subject is a sensitive one)
