ending up the sq. ability including some thing to both area that makes the area with x in it a attractive sq.. thus, you upload 16. x^2 + 8x = 9 x^2 + 8x + 16 = 9 + 16 (x+4)^2 = 25 taking the sq. root of both area x+4 = +/- 5 x+4 = 5 x = a million x+4 = -5 x = -9 How did i know to apply 16? I basically took 1/2 of 8 and squared it. Works every time. by the fashion, it may were more beneficial accessible to scrub up this problem by ability of factoring. x^2 + 8x - 9 = 0 (x-a million)(x+9) = 0 x-a million = 0 x = a million x+9 = 0 x = -9
