My tortouse looks fine, its eyes appear normal, the last few weeks were cold, he seems to be sneezing, is that possible? Could he have a cold? Do I need to have him checked out, or is he just going through hibernation? He doesn't eat much or move around much either.

It could simply be the time of the year and if you ever notice a large change in the behavior of your reptile that usually means it is in hibernation mode or that it is sick. the way it sounds it could be either of these I would call a herp vet close to you and ask what might be wrong and if they ask you to bring the tortoise in do everything they say your tortoises' life could depend on it.

The concern is he could be developing an Upper Respiratory Infection (URI). He could have acquired this from another animal, you (there are some viruses believe it or not you can give turtles), or if his enclosure isnt at the proper temp. Reptiles can go downhill rather rapidly if sick. It goes without saying that it probably would be a good idea to take him to the vet to at minimum be examined. Then the Veterinarian can either give him the necessary antibiotic and/or give you pointers on how to keep the enclosure at the best temp.

It sounds to me like your tortoise is getting a Respiratory Infection (RI)- reptile version of a bad cold.

The temps are probably too cool for it, and the humidity is possibly off as well. If we knew the species, we could help more specifically.

If he were hibernating, he would be hiding and motionless, at temps of about 40 degrees F.

What type of tortoise is it?

Make sure it is on the correct type of substrate, and make sure the temperature in the basking spot is correct. Also get a hydrometer and make sure you have the optimal humidity levels as well.

I would check to make sure that all those things are correct, and if they are, and he is still sluggish, have him tested for parasites - a quick fecal exam should do.
