I mean Background singers for American Idol .. why don't they try out ?

they have the best gig of their lives that's why. i'm sure they get paid very well to be back up. don't don't really have to prove they can sing besides it's probably against the rules since they are employees of the show.

At least they can sing on american idol, go on TV, don't get criticized by Simon, Randy or Paula, never get eliminated and be paid big cash. After all, its the most watched television show in the whole wide world, BABY!!!

Maybe because they're over the age limit, or maybe they're not allowed to in their contract.
They might not have stardom qualties, i.e. they might be physically repulsive.
They could've skeletons in their closet that they don't want out, but most surely will be if they join the show.
Or they could just be really nervous.

Cuz they get to be paid, travel, and they don't have to put up with nearly as much harassment by the Paparazzi.

maybe you should email AI and ask them, maybe they should try an entirely new show for back ups! that would be awesome, have celbs sing and have back ups audition.
not all back ups want to do small gigs!
