By law, you have to be at least 18years old to purchase a lighter or to ask for a book of matches. The store clerk, however, may or may not card you. This applies to any state in the union.

There is no age limit to buy one in any state. But the clerk may not sell you one just because he feels it's wrong.

i'd say, as soon as you are born and can go to the store. is there really a law for this? i know i was smoking cigarette at 5... at the time i'd say it was for my dad if they'd say anything
