high to cover the cost of it and that you have to wait a long time for care because of it being universal. Is that the case-please tell me about it and why it is good or not so good!

As a Tax paying Canadian I don't find that they are really that high. They are higher then that of the US but it is just something that you get use too.

Is it better that is a question!

There is no right or wrong answer, I like it b/c if I am in trouble or are worried about something and think I need to go to the hospital or doctor I know that it is covered. I never have to worry about paying off a high doctor or hospital bill. Not everything is covered and I do have to pay for somethings but most is covered.

It is just we have so much to worry about in life and our health, just knowing that I can go to a doctor or hospital and not have to worry what is or isn't covered by my own health insurance is a relief. The wait times in hospitals can be long but they take the most important and life threatening first and then the others. It is also due to a lack of doctors, they want to go where they get paid a lot and in the states I guess they have that option. It is just a matter of preferance. But I don't think I would want to live somewhere where the health care system isn't covered by the government.

Hello,
The taxs might be a little more expensive, but the Canadian Health Care System is a long-term institution, not a short-term one. In Canada, there is a two-tier system. Which means there is the public health-care system that everyone pays into with their taxes, and in return, they receive operations, homecare, medicare and many other services. Their is also the private tier, whereas if you have some money to spare, you can pay to receive your treatment before those of the public healthcare system. The only problem with this, is that it shuffles the order of patients, but still maintains a long wait for all patients. I believe that Canada should return to a full-time public healthcare system, where we all look out for each other, and when we grow old and sick; we are taken care of. You have to remember, Americans voted no to a public-healthcare system because they did not want to pay the extra taxes. My question is: "Would you be willing to pay an extra tax for the well-being of your life, or would you like WHO's control it?"

Yes the taxes are higher here but the Health Care System makes up for it I can go see any Dr that I choose not one that is chosen for me. If I have a child it doesn't cost me anything, knee surgery, etc are covered unless of course it is cosmetic. And many employers offer benefit programs that pay for prescriptions, eye glasses, dental, and some really good ones even cover chiropractic and orthopedic. So it balances out in the end. I don't know what it would be like to live somewhere, where you had to pay to just see the Dr.

It's better. Trust me.

My aunt came here from the US for a family accident and she complimented the system and how much better it is than the US. She has a really good insurance through her employer mind you! Canada is a country for the society not just for the rich.

I would rather pay taxes than have to work when I'm old and grey just to keep a job that has health care benefits, or have to mortgage my house to pay for a heart operation.

i moved there from the usa. our medicaid system for the disabled and low income is far superior. the taxes are high the drs are not as good or nice as ours imo.

the hosptials have had major problems with bacteria and things from lack of cleanliness.

in some placesy ou pay high taxes and premiums and it does not cover everything.

some people cannot even get a dr to see them shortags etc. and dr there interview you. if you they do not like you you have no dr. it is a stupid system. if you know nothing else it would be ok. if you have had the us system you will be dismayed.

some facts from them.

http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/index_e.html
and for taxes.
http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/menu-e.html

to the cnd above you govt and media falsely reports how our system really works, my mom is a sr and my daughter is disabled. they treat them like dirt in cnd. ontario is in trouble for this.

for us health care info go to www.medicare.gov learn cnd stop being so ignorant.

www.cdc.ca hell your govt has to get us to help you at times. i was there during sars. that was a joke.

now your nurses whine about doing things we do here that save lives and stop bacterial infections.

there is a lot of of low income and free healthcare in the usa.

go to www.healthfinder.gov

i do not have wait and some diseases in the us unlike the us are treated for free if you have no insurance your govt often send people outside to the usa. shame on them!
