I'm putting a new band together. Rock band, female singer. I'm making a list of songs to do. What songs do you like to see bands do when you go to a bar? What songs do you NOT want to hear? (Even tho I'm a female singer I don't stick to songs by female artists. I can sing Plant and Maynard with the best of em..)
Don't dog me for covering songs, I hate it too but it pays the bills for the recording of originals..

David Lee Roth shrieked alot on the first 3-4 Van Halen LPs. I especially like the first LP: it was recorded in studio but sounded live; check out their Kinks covers! Also Whitesnake's David Coverdale (no pun intended) did a fairly good Plant with "Here I Go Again" and "Is This Love." Boston's "Smokin" is a great crowd-pleaser. Brad Delp's vocals got up there (R.I.P.) Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" is gonna be relatable & recognizable. Janis Joplin, of course. Check out those Heart CD's from the 70's because Led Zeppelin was obviously top of their idol list. Listen to their live pure-energy version of "Rock & Roll" the last tune on "Greatest Hits/Live(1981.) For something a little off-beat give a listen to Tori Amos. She does spooky covers of Slayer's "Raining Blood" and Velvet Underground's "New Age." I personally love how Aimee Mann sings "Save Me." Her CD "I'm With Stupid" is loaded with excellent bass-heavy tunes & vocals. It's among her best. You must know Pat Benatar's "Heartbreaker." And last, but not least, Grace Slick just soared when she sang Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit." Like Heart's message, Sing Child Sing!

Well "Pour Some Sugar on Me" is always a classic. It seems to get ppl excited no matter what kind of crowd you are playing for. I don't know if you play any older rock songs, but they are still around to be enjoyed, so mix it up with some old, some new and some unheard!

go with Song 2 by Blur (once you hear it you will know the song) that would get the crowd going if you get them in the song. the Immigrant Song by zeppelin. try out some Everybody Hurts by R.E.M for a slower song. i dont know your bands style so who am i to say. just jamming sometimes would be cool. don't try making pop stuff rock cause that makes everything sound bad. peace.
