They are green because they contain chlorophyll. Chlorophyll contains pigments such as chloroplasts that help make a plant green.

1. Chlorophyll absorbs all electromagnetic radiation in the visible spectrum except 510-570 nanometers which gets reflected back to us as "green".

2. Green is only green because "we" agree that "green" is "green".
