My friend has a son who was recently diagnosed w/ RSV. He is 11 months old. I do know that she smoked marijuana regularly during her pregnancy and sometimes around him after he was born. I was wondering if anyone had any info on RSV or websites w/ info about this condition.

I am concerned b/c I smoked cigarettes during the first half of my pregnancy (I know, bad) and was wondering if this increases the risk of RSV. Thank you for your help.

Smoking does not increase the risk of RSV,it is Respiratory Syncytial Virus,so,,,,,a virus can not be caused by smoking. Ya it is not good to smoke but your baby will be just fine.RSV is very very contagious and can hospitalize alot of children and can be fatal to some with congenital heart and lung diseases. My son has Pulmonary Artresia with VSD and he gets 5 shots from November to march for RSV.So,no You do not increase your risk for your baby from smoking.Just Google RSV and you will come up with alot of info.

Here's a website that you can research about it. RSV is a virus. Smoking could cause symptoms to be worse but isn't the main cause of it. I hope your friends son gets well soon. My oldest son had it when he was 2 and I know how rough it is.

It's a virus. However, smoking while pregnant and around a baby(cigarettes or pot)will affect the baby's immune system and lung development. Both can make the baby more susceptible to contracting RSV and other virus'. Smoking during the first half probably won't make your child more susceptible to getting RSV, as long as you've quit. Here's a good site with info...

it's a virus, just like a cold and anyone, even adults can get it. smoking while pregnant or around your child can cause them to have lung problems, which can lead to them getting sick easier. my son was 4 weeks early and he got RSV from his daycare when he was 5 months old.

It's a virus like a cold that lots of people get and carry around during flu season. Although if someone is smoking around a baby it could increase the symptoms, it does not cause the virus to occur.

It will increase the risk of RSV for the baby but more so after the baby is born. RSV is very common in preemies. Try to use good hand washing techniques and stop smoking this will help.
