Rappers from the 1980s started the fad, when supposedly people in prison wore pants like that. The rappers got the idea from that.

You're not going to like this answer. It kind of grossed me out when I found out. It did originate in jail but not because inmates were given ill fitting clothes. Men who were homosexual or willing to be homosexual while behind bars, pulled their pants down low as a way to advertise the fact that they could be readily accessed sexually. More or less a sign of being submissive so they would not be beaten or hurt. I found this out from a professor whom I worked with, he ran a literacy program in prison. Sad, but true. I really doubt if more people knew the reason behind the low slung pants, they wouldn't wear them that way.

It originated from Jail. Back in the day, they had to wear big baggy pants and now it transformed into a rather cool "gangster" style.

Probably myself! Ever since I met someone on a dating site for fun years ago, someone hacked into my computer, I busted their butt with the US Department of Computer Defence and Microsoft Corporation for invading my privacy, and people who I knew somehow managed to find out about certain habits that I enjoyed in my own home and talked about it in public- like walking around in my own home with my pants off!! Furthermore, one of the people I used to know was into these spy camera things!!!!!! Furthermore, I have a number of suspects, license plates, computer hacking evidence traces and related evidence and various other forms of evidence which the police do absolutely nothing about!!

It started in jail the clothes they were given were too big and when they got out of jail they continued to wear their clothes like this and then it became fashionable.

youthful boys do no longer understand that style all started in prison. The gay inmates placed on their pants all the way down to instruct that they take it interior the fudge hollow. youngsters concept it became cool yet did no longer understand what it meant.

I don't know, but I hate that look..although it is rather funny watching try and run, they more waddle. What's also funny is to watch them try and walk, hold up their pants, talk on their cell phones and run across the street..what a hoot!
