You should take first-aid for infants. Also for yourself. If the baby chokes turn them over (upside down) at a slight tilt so their head is toward your feet. Rest them on your knee. Take the heel of your hand and hit them between the shoulder blades. You can do the heimlich on yourself with your hands above the navel as you would on someone else or use the back of a chair. The movement should be in and up at the same time. Hard. Take the classes.

You do the baby Heimlich Maneuver NOT the grownup or child one. First you thrust the baby's back with the lower palm of your hand and then switch him/her over and (with 2 fingers softly hit in the rib cage and repeat. I would go to a babysitting clinic or look up the baby heimlich on google. If worst comes to worst call 911. You can do CPR but the baby will probably not get air because the passage is blocked. I would go to a clinic, before you even try to do what I said!

Please take a CPR class asap if you are a babysitter! I realize you are wanting step by step instructions on here, but it's difficult to explain this way! You need a hands on class to teach you what to do! CPR and choking is so much different on children, rather than adults!
I babysat during high school and my parents wouldn't allow me to unless I kept my CPR certification up to date! They wanted to make sure that I could handle all situations or at least know where to start and what to do! I don't think I could hire a babysitter that didn't know these things through taking classes!
Lots of places teacht hese, your local hospital would be a start to look for classes. Or your health unit, or your health class at school, or if you have a local YMCA. If all else fails, go to your local ambulance or Fire department service! Any of the guys in our area welcome people wanting to learn how to save a child or adults life! If more people knew how, everyone would be better off! They can't get you certified in CPR, but they can show you the basics! Good luck!
And remember, you can do more harm than good if you don't knwo what you're doing!

Turn the baby upside down and hit his/her back firmly until the object comes out...and be calm about it, don't panic, it will work.
Do the Heimlich maneuver on the child, but don't squeeze too hard.or you will break his/her ribs.
Go to a 1st aid class, it will give you the confidence you need to handle the situation.
I went to a class 3 months ago and a week after, I had to clear an obstruction from my 3 month old daughter...worked like a charm and being calm is key.

call 911 first. hold the baby on its stomach supporting its head and neck with your hand and its body with your forearm and try to expell the object by strong back blows to the infants back. dont ever try to pry the object from the infants mouth UNLESS you can see the object. If its already in the babys airway shoving your fingers will only push it further in.

If you're babysititng, you should take first aid. If you're choking, you can do the hymlick maneuver on yourself using a chair.
