It could be the cold water inlet value. First check to see if the filter screen is clear. You find the filter at to back of the washer where the water inlet hoses join the washer.

If it is the cold water inlet value and you need to finish off washing your clothes you can temporally swap the cold water inlet value with the hot water inlet value, till you get you new part then swap them back.

Have a look at the sites above.

The hoses connect to the back of the washer. At the connection point, there are 2 blue or black threaded pipes, and inside is a small screen, to catch debris, before it enters your washer. Depending on the type of pipes you have, where your water comes from, the piping system to your house, and the hardness of your water, all these factors come into play. Just turn off both the hot and cold valves, take off the hoses, one at a time( so you don't get the hoses crossed), clean out the screens with an old toothbrush, and re-install the hose. When you have replaced both hoses, check for leaks, and you are finished. Don't try and take the screens out, it will void your warranty! Good luck to you!

Is it an old Caplypso bought between 2000-2004 ??? If it is you have a right to a new washer courtesy of a class action law suit brought agaist Sears and Whirlpool..google class action law suit for Sears/Whirlpool you still have time to get in your paperwork. (May 2007)

If it's not a Caplyso....I'd have a technician look at it...It's STILL made by Whirlpool and sometimes Whirlpools aren't the greatest machines...(especially when the word Kenmore is on it...

If your cold water is turned on and you aren't getting water turn it off, disconnect the hose at the washer and make sure the screen inside the hose is not blocked by mineral deposits etc.

If by not working you mean not filling you might have the cold water supply line turned off, or you might have a bad fill valve on the washer. Try changing the temperture setting you should have a slightly faster filling sound on warm than you would have on hot or cold.
