Flagyl is listed in Thomas Hale's book "Medications & Mother's Milk" as a L2 (Lactation Risk Category 2 - safer). The categories are L1-L5, with 1 being safest and 5 being a big no-no.
Hale lists no pediatric concerns for this drug.
Evidently flagyl is even given to pediatric patients!

According to my sources it is safe but PLEASE call motherisk.org Dial a 10-10 long distance plan and it will cost you less than $2. All they do is study safety during pregnancy and lactation. They are one of the best sources in the world:
Motherisk's Home Line - (416) 813-6780 - for information about the risk or safety of prescription and over-the-counter drugs, herbal products, chemicals, x-rays, chronic disease and infections during pregnancy. [This is a toll call to our Toronto call centre. Callers may have to wait up to 10 minutes to speak to a counsellor.]
These Helplines are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST.
