For me they are creative, never play guitar with standard tune.
Try to make good song from very bad sound. And I love Kim.

Sonic Youth is one of my all-time favorite bands. There are many people who do not understand the weird guitar tunings, offbeat vocals of Kim, or fuzz distortion at the end of their songs. These are people who generally aren't so openminded about that kind of rock music. But to each his own. Those are the reasons I have respect for SY fans though, for liking something that is kind of different and breaks the mold of being a standard rock band. I like your perspective on making a good song, from bad sounds. :)

Don't worry about what the people you know think!!!
(You sound like a person I used to know. He told me he had 2 record collections growing up.
He had the cool record collection, which he hid because the people he knew didn't understand it.
Then he had the uncool records, to fit in with the people he knew and their bad musical taste.)
