Fourty one degree forty six minutes north; fifty degrees fourteen minutes west.

I persume it is the minute you had an issue with.

For the record, there are 60 minutes in one degree, and a smaller unit called second (there are 60 arc seconds in a arc minute) also exist.

The 46' is 46 minutes.

Each degree on the circle is divided into 60 minutes.

So 46 minutes is 46/60ths of a degree.

Minutes are further divided into 60 seconds, such that there are 3600 seconds in a degree (60 x 60).

When you look on your protractor, which normally shows 180 degrees in a semi-circle, imagine splitting each tiny degree space into sixty parts. That shows you how small is a minute.

Then you would have to divide that by 60 to get seconds.

But latitudes and longitudes are never taken down to seconds - usually degrees and minutes as your sample shows.

Forty one degrees, forty six minutes north by fifty degrees, fourteen minutes west.

If you have somethihng like 25 degrees 15'35" it's twenty five degrees, fifteen minutes, thirty five seconds.
