The first answerer has it right. You do not know if they will spend the money on food, drugs, alcolhol, etc. so it is best to ,if possible, get them food,i.e. sandwich, soft drink, etc. You can also get a complete meal now in the styrafoam containers from resturants for a hot meal, especially in winter.
Cases have been exposed where those who "panhandle" do it as a 'job" and make more at it than a real job! True story.
Trouble is, it hurts those who really struggle each day Many street people are in dire s traights and some fear to go to shelters because some are able to swipe what little they have! More of man's inhumanity to man"./ I financially support two shelters that I know are honest and accountable.

No. Tell them you will buy them a meal @ a restaurant. I f they need food for family members take them some groceries. Never give money....could be lying to get money for drugs or drink. Also direct them to a shelter if your town/community has one. There are agencies which help, but never give money directly.

Well its your choice, but most of the time, somthing got them to be that way. Drugs, achahol, dropping out of school, something that costs money. If there asking for money, then 50 percent of the time its for drugs or something like that. Besides, there are places that someone whos straving to death acn go to to get free food, so why'd he want to buy it himself? keep a bag of groceries in your car, like crackers and tuna, or protien bars or maybe something with lots of nutrition and protien. Keep the number of a local rescue mission with you and give him some money for a phone call to them (like 1.50) and that'll send him/her on the right path.

No, it's best to give them food. If they're not appreciative of the food (which has happened to me), then you know that they would have used your money for things other than food.

No. But depending on the situation, I will give food or take them to eat somewhere. Money can be spent on booze or drugs easier.

I'd take the person to the store and pay for their food or to a restaurant and pay for their meal. I'd help them find a job and I tell him how much God loves him. This is what Jesus himself would do.
