Breakfast At Tiffany's. Audrey Hepburn plays Holly Golighty, who is searching for belonging. After running away from a mundane life, she surrounds herself with big name people. Basically acting as a starlet. Until she meets George Peppard's character and learns how to love and find her place. There's a ton more you could go into. Like the whole "Cat" thing and more.
Hope this helps.

King Kong (1933) because it defined many things in movies that we take for granted. It pioneered a whole host of new technologies that put real actors in the same shots with stop-motion puppets. It included techniques such as the Williams process, the Dunning process, Rear screen projection in addition to other processes.
It also pioneered sound: it was one of the first movies where the sound effects man actually had to create sounds rather than simply recording existing ones (used for Kong's roar as well as other creatures).
It pioneered Movie soundtracks as well. The King Kong score is sometimes considered the first modern film score. This is because it so closely followed the action on screen and sometimes almost acted as additional sound effects.
Plus the stop-motion animation was the most outstanding visual effects available at the time.
On top of all this, it is still fun to watch after 73 years! I would definitely choose the original Kong for your thesis.

Many people consider "Citizen Kane" (1941) to be THE best film ever. I also suggest 'The Godfather' (1972).

King Kong(1933) because it is so old and it's still good,I think it's so old but it feels so new ,entertaining and good. Also, Fay Wray was in it who passed aways years ago, so add that too.
