If you really want to know how he got shot read this next sentence, if not completely disregard & move on with life
apparently, Sharon Carter (Shield Agent) was under HYDRA's control & was hypnotized, so when the sniper shot Capt America, she ran close to him to protect him but under the hypnosis shot him 3 times in the stomach & he died, but no one knows except for herself after they took her out of hypnosis & was told to remember the events.. we'll see.

He was shot by a sniper, dead.
But obviously he will be back; maybe someone will find a time machine and go back before all the 'World War' crap started.
