I caught a mouse on a glue trap in my apartment. I couldn't think of a more humane way of euthanizing it, other than putting it and trap into a plastic bag, tying it off, and putting it my freezer. Can any diseases float around in my freezer and land on my ice?

As far as what is humane, I think freezing is pretty straightforward, and relatively quick and painless. Hypothermia, as I understand it, begins with slipping into unconsciousness. Anything else requires some sort of skill, knowledge, and maybe second tries (even crushing with a rock). Also, letting a mouse go in the wild, especially into the urban wild, seems redundant in solving a pest problem.

And as far as traps go, I found the mouse trapped minutes after it got caught. Snap-traps aren't 100% effective, and can result in a suffering mouse.

I think you might be safe if it's securely in a plastic bag.

But don't use those dang glue traps anymore! I hate those things! If you feel you need to use them up, fold it over on the mouse, take it outside and bash it with a rock. It's much kinder to get the suffering over quickly.

Old-fashioned mousetraps are much cheaper, and they kill the things quickly.

If you want to use humane traps, be sure you have a good spot to release them, and make sure you have the guts to follow through instead of letting them starve in there.

What's done is done; don't beat yourself up. (I know how you feel, because we've used glue traps two or three times at our house.) Move on. Give the freezer a good cleaning if you feel guilt everytime you open it, but otherwise it should be fine.

Snap traps are not 100%!?! Good God Man! I would say that the snap trap is more humane than the glue. Everyone knows that the glue is cruel and a long and suffering death. The fact that you still have the thing makes me worry that you might be liking this??? Hypothermia is not all bubbles and bliss either...takes too long. I don't know what to tell you to do. BUt if you do anything...change the method of your starategy and get some snap traps...they at least kill them instantlywhen they do catch one!

Why didn't you just smash it? Freezing is a pretty bad way to die.No i don't think you can get anything contagious from it.

A blender, a lawn mower,a garbage disposal or a microwave oven , in my opinion, would be more humane.

...i don't think so...but, dude, i mean, it's just...gruesome...but, so is letting it chew its' feet off to escape the glue trap...listen, use poison...that way, they go away and die...otherwise, use traps that kill them outright...be a little humane, dude...jeez...
