I've certainly never heard that generalization before. It is true that greys are more likely to get skin cancer (check out the link), but this doesn't usually shorten their lifespan by much anymore. My suspicion is that this may literally be an "old wives tale" in the sense that when treatments weren't as good and people didn't think older animals were worth doing surgeries on, the cancer thing may have been a bigger problem.

thats just a myth, altho greys usually get dirtier, they tend to live a just as long as any other kind of horse... the average life span depends more on the breed than the color, so thats usually pushed back when thinking about horses and their lifespans

I hope not, The one I have is 17. Like white horses or light pigment horses they can get sunburned. I have found giving a carrot a day helps that.

I've never heard that one. Additionally, a gray horse isn't actually gray, it can be any color. Gray is a modifying gene that changes the coat color over time. More information on coat color genetics can be found here http://www.vgl.ucdavis.edu/~lvmillon/coatcolor/coatstxt.html#geneg
