Informants. Jews are a really social group (as they have bonded and become close to as a group due to thousands of years of oppression) and social groups are easy to identify.
If there is an active Christian community that John Doe (for example) has been active in for 20 years...and then a repressive government comes to power that hates Christians, it isn't hard to figure out what group John Doe believes in . Keep in mind that the Jews (prior to Hitler) didn't really have a reason to try to hide their ancestry or anything like that. They also weren't *denying* that they were Jewish because nobody could have imagined the atrocities of the concentration camps.
Aside from just informants though, the fact that geneology is a matter of public record makes it pretty easy to trace people and figure out who belongs to what group.

Well, you rarely saw a blonde-haired, blue-eyed jew in those days. Mostly they had brown eyes, I believe and dark hair, but regardless, they would need to show papers to prove they were not in fact jewish, and unless you were in the underground network that was helping jewish people, you could not get fake papers stating you were german or swedish or whatever. It was hard to hide it if you were jewish. I mean , they went house to house and took them out. It's pretty sad. Too bad they didn't have access to colored contacts and professional hair colorists in those days, because the jews would have had more luck hiding out.

i think they actually had "rule" of steretypical looks
it was like brown hair and long point-ish nose or something, so i guess if you lied well enough about not being jewish and did not fit those characteristics then you were fine (for the moment) other than that. but then in concentration camps they worked them really badly so they would i guess appear thinner and more worn out. also they had "uniforms" for the jews and for females once they were in concentration camps they shaved off all the hair on their body. but everyone who entered a camp got a number tattooed to their arm
oh and i think its spelt halocaust

the way they: dress, look, talk, don't eat pork, work in a jewish store things like that. Plus the Nazi's had the SS which was the secret police, who help spy out jews that tryed to blend in.

just like today they had ID papers-but the star on the arm was the way they could pick them out faster,

I am a Jew that let Jesus into my heart to forgive my sins and be my Messiah and best friend-its good John 3 and Revelation 2:19&20 oh yesss true happiness and i do not mind being a Jew-a complete Jew with the Messiah too

People who care about ethnicity become sensitive to it, like how some women can tell the brand of shoe you are wearing from across a crowded concert hall, or how gear heads can tell you what kind of car it is just by hearing the engine run.

The jewish people do have some facial features and hair coloring. Mostly people turned them in to Hilter's people.
Hilter not only killed the Jewish people; but anyone that was not a blue-eyed blonde. What he wanted to breed a national of people HE wanted to fight for him and work for him.
go to the history channel or goe to the library.
