We have a very vibrant GLBT community where I live. I've been thinking up setting up a gay hotline to help people have pride in who they are, and help teens especially who may need support and encouragement in their alternative lifestyle. We are afraid though that some narrow minded people may want to rain on our rainbow parade.....what do you think?

It will also function as a dating phone line, to help gays seek each other out

I'd probably skip the dating line as it could get you in legal trouble.

As for a hotline offering support, that's not a bad idea. We had one in this area some time ago, but it's not entirely cheap. If you use your own phone, you'll probably want a second line. Then again, you would probably want to have multiple volunteers to man the line, and you would need a place to do that, or have an answering service forward the calls. This is still talking money.

Get a POBox. You don't want your address falling into intollerant hands.
