if you use limewire, there is a wondrous worm floating around, in .exe downloads. The one I got is called :

Win32.Worm.VB.CC@mm

The little guy does not allow you to open the task manager, messes with the command prompt, and will restart Limewire, immediately when you try to turn it off.

Other forms of this worm are spread from other sources, and have similar traits. I killed the worm, and now my task manager works. And I can turn off limewire. Pretty easy to get rid of, AVG did all the work.

Does anything come up when you press ctrl+alt+delete? If so, your either looking at the wrong tab, or someone has set the computer to display an options menu instead of the task manager directly.

case 1: look at the top of the window that pops up and click the processes tab.

case 2: click on the button for Task Manager and then click the processes tab.

It is also possible to restrict access to Task Manager if someone doesnt want you to view it

Right click the task bar -> task manager -> it shows the running process in process tab.
