I am studying in community college right now. I planned to transfer to a UC, and then I'll go to a medical school. However, one of my frds (she is a premed too) said she is going to transfer to a CSU. Cuz it is easier to get good grade in CSU. Thus, she will have a high GPA, which means it may be easier to become accepted into a med school.

1)Should I transfer to a UC or CSU if I want to go to med school? (well, u may get a better GPA in a CSU)

2)I want to go the med school of Davis. Should I transfer to Davis and receive my B.A. degree there, then apply to Davis med school? Or I should receive my B.A. degree in other UC (or CSU?), and then apply to Davis med school? (Do Davis med school admission officers flavor those from Davis or from some other university?)

3)Since I am spending 3 years in community college for Prerequisites of science. Will medical school look down on me because I take those courses in community college?

P.S. I know I have to do Prerequisite science courses, MCAT, good GPA, extra activities, and all that crap in order to go into med school. LOL. I am asking here cuz I wanna increase my rate to be accepted into a med school.

Davis' med school doesn't give a preference either way if you went to Davis for undergrad or not.

Your friend brings up a valid point. However, the danger is if she does bad, not only does she not have a great GPA, but it's from a school that's easier. Gotta understand the risk.

Yes, med schools will feel that the grades you got while at the CC came from easy courses. However, if you got A's in them, there's only so much they can say. So, when you transfer, if you continue to do well, then the med school has to acknowledge that you can do well at a good school too.

The gray area comes if you do ALL your med school prereqs in CC and don't take any of the prereqs at the harder UC/Cal State school. Then, they have no real comparison.

Your application won't be as strong as someone who took all the prereqs at a UC, but then again, all you need is to get a med school to accept you.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR FRIENDS ADVICE!!! it is true, you can get a higher GPA at a CSU but those schools have NO reputation compared to a good UC and it will hurt her in the long run. Go to a junior college, get the best grades you can. The med schools will not look down on you if you are a great student and prove yourself in a JC. Then transfer to one of the better UC's if possible, UCLA, Berkeley... In my med school class of 140 there were tons of UC students and only 2 from the CSU system. And those 2 had extenuating circumstances that got them in to my med school

i'm not sure in case you have a bachelor degree or no longer. If no longer, do like the previous poster stated and declare in spite of substantial you pick and then ascertain you're taking the prerequisite training. additionally, California scientific colleges are infamous for giving determination to in-state scholars. So, being a CA resident is a plus!
