Yeah. Quite a few times actually.

We have a big old 35 ft Mulberry tree in the ravine just behind our fence line. The tree actually grows over our property because it can get more sunlight there.

Anyway, once those berries ripen the competition between the birds and squirrels for them is fierce. And between squirrels alone, because they are so darn territorial.

It is not at all unusual to have one squirrel chase another away from "his" branch of berries. And some of those escape jumps go awry, and the squirrel ends up falling 15 feet or more through the branches, before they can arrest the fall.

What I hate to see is a "murder" of crows out chipmunk hunting. The chipmunk never stands a chance. And you find out just how apt the flock name for crows is, when you see that behaviour. They are much worse than cats for "playing" with their prey.

Oh yeah! It's a riot! And I've seen squirrels misjudge a branches strength and SNAP! then they free fall! I've seen a squirrel land in front of a pitbull once. That thing didnt stand a chance. " I'll have a squirrel martini; shaken, not stirred." Dog probably never had a toy that was so much fun...

I don't think they usually miss, that's instinct as far as I thought, but also they could learn that early on from their mother and father. They usually stick with them until the following winter. But only branching out, usually not going more than 5 miles from their original home. They could miss once and a while but I've never seen it. Peace.
