We go to Orlando every couple of years for the last 12+ years, and growing up a first generation Disney kid, I remember going to the park the year it opened, and 3 or 4 times after that as a child, so I am a little biased towards Disney because of my childhood memories.
However, having a 12 year old and a 10 year old...and having taken them to Disney 3 or 4 times, and Universal Studios 3 or 4 times, I can tell you that age group prefers Universal Studios. I am suprised at how much I have enjoyed Universal Studios as well.
I also suggest going to Sea World. The best tip there is to buy a one day pass...walk through the gate..take a left and go to the "second day free" ticket counter. There are no strings attached to the second day free.
You will spend 2 days at a park that everyone will enjoy for the price of one day park admission. (factor in 2 days parking though).
They offer the second day free to get you to buy food and souveniers ;) ...but we use it to enjoy the park without having to run from one ride to another.
We also always find buying the preferred parking to be a pretty good deal....less walking ;)
Have fun...can we go too?

i just went during winter vacation. And i got to say they were both good but the only in Walt Disney that will be fun is Epcot for older ones. Universal on the other hand has something for every body for ex. Suess land for kids or the big rollercoaster like the Mummy for everyone or even bigger rides on the other half of the park. If you can go to Epcot, Animal Kingdom and Universal.
Animal Kingdom is enjoyable because it also has things for kids and adults.
this is by an 13 year old

well honestly you can do both... if you are on vacation for a week it is easy to stay at disney and pop over to universal for a day or two.... but saying that disney can keep you busy for the whole week while universal is a two day thing at tops... if you have younger kids there is the whole seeing their favorite character thing that disney does much better than universal... characters are the big draw at disney.... universal is more of a thrill ride kind if thing... though there are some very good rides at disney ( tower of terror rocking rollercoaster everst test track) and their shows and parades can't be beat. i would go with disney if you can afford it

Walt Disney World is great in attractions like Space Mountain, Test Drive and much more.
Universal Studios is great in souvenirs (i think) because they have toys and stuff of Terminator (for example).

Universal's Islands of Adventure. I always go there, Universal Studios and Disney's MGM.

WDW is MUCH larger than Universal Studios. And much more varied. And, in my opinion, a higher quality.

If you want thrill rides, Universal does it a bit better, although Disney has a few top quality thrill rides.

Disney is better for kids. It's better if you want a more complete resort (good food, spas, golf).

They both have their appealing qualities. It depends on the age (if any) of the children you are taking. Islands of Adventure at Universal doesn't have many rides for small children, or at least they didnt the last time I took my children there. That was about 2 years ago.

Sea World is great, for people of all ages!

it depends if you are a kid at heart Disney all the way but if you are a person who likes scary, exiting and fast pasted rides you would probably like universal better but to me i like both.
PS: if you go to Disney get passes to all the parks, and if you go to universal studios the portifino bay hotel is the best (in my opinion) :)

It depends.

If you like action and scary rides, then go to universal.

If you are a kid at heart then go to disney world.

Please do me a huge favor and do not mix up disneyworld and disneyland. Disney world is in florida and is so much better than disneyland.
