this is a head to head league 12 teams and the stats catorgies are RUNS/ HITS/ 1B/ 2B/ 3B/ HR/ RBI/ SB/ K/ AVG

Based on the categories in your league, keep Varitek. Yes, he's older than Kendall, but only by three years. He also has some injury history. Kendall will get you a better average, but Varitek has WAY more power. If your team is stacked with HR/RBI hitters and you're suffering in avg, then give Kendall a look.

breakdown:
Kendall gets you more runs (+30), hits/singles (+30), and steals (+10) and a higher avg (+.015). than Varitek. Doubles and Triples, they both hit the same number.
Varitek gets you more HRs (+10) and RBIs (+25) but he's batting 6th behind Manny, Papi, and (this year) J.D. Drew.
Kendall is a lead-off hitter. Really. He'll hit in front of Shannon Stewart this year.
Take Kendall.

What stat categories? How many teams?
Those are both low-end starters. Maybe Varitek comes back a bit, but he's getting creaky...

kendall = average (.275ish), NO homers/rbi/stolen bases
Varitek = ok in all catagories as long as he is healthy
