Well, I suppose a veterinarian that works for the government or a corporation wouldn't be considered private, and a veterinarian that doesn't would be considered private.

private practice veterinarians are what most vets are. they are either self employed or work for someones small business. This is what your typicall neighborhood vet clinic is.

Veterianians who are not in private practice include those who:
work for the government (doing research, public health, food inspections)
Work for industry (doing resarch)
Work for universities (research, teaching, working in a veterinary teaching hospital)
Work for the military (treating pets on bases, doing research, public health)

veterinarians are all private practice. Did you think they worked for a covert government office?

Are you referring to the animal care chains, like VCA, as opposed to private practice vets?

In my experience, you need to be wary of gouging from both, and the chains can be even worse.

My advice is to learn every thing you can, and question everything.
