Algae spores. Wash everything down really well with very hot water and a clean towel. If you need to scrubb anything, use salt like scrubbing powder and then rinse well again with very hot water. That should take care of it.

It sounds like you have some algae 'dust' that sank to the bottom. When you stirred it up it made the water green. My
advice. Empty the water out. put the gravel in a five gallon bucket with some bleach and water. Keep the bucket under running water while stirring until the over flow runs clean. This will also kill any bacteria. Wash your undergravel filter, the riser tubes and any piece of equipment in contact with the water with bleach/water. An ounce or two of bleach will do.
Don't over do it with the amount of bleach. Scrub everything clean and you will have very few problems with it.

Take out everything from the tank. Including the gravel, water, heater, fuilter and everything is. At this time it is not safe to put fish in there.
Wash of everything in the tank in this exact order
1-Take out all the gravel and wash it with warm water and get out all the mold and poop.
2-take out all the water and throw it away
3-Take out the filter (if you can) if you cant just take out the cartridge or foam inside. Throw it away and wash the filter as best as you can and buy a new cartridge or foam depending on how your filter works.
4-Put the gravel back in and fill the tank up with water.
5-put in some cheap 25 cent feeder goldfish untill the tank is properly cycled(this will take about a week)
6-when you see the water is crisp clear color and your tank is healthy, throw away the goldfish, because they have been poisned by the amonia that used to exist in your tank before the tank cycle took place
7-Go ahead and put new fish in your tank, but remember the golden rule 1 gallon of water per 1 inch of fish.

----I suggest you start out with smaller fish suck has guppies or a betta till you get the hang of things.

well, after you replace the gravel i would wait at least 5 days after you think it is clean before trying to put fish in it. depending on what types of fish you want in the tank you may even need a better filter system... that one shoudl work for goldfish, or little tetras and such
