b.

Why??

I think because you've multiplied it by 4, three times... one for each dimension.

1cmx1cmx1cm=1cm^3

quadruple it:

4cmx4cmx4cm=64cm^3

...oops that's for the volume.... hmmmm

lessee....

a 1x1x2 prism.... has surface area of 10cm^2

a 4x4x8 prism has a surface area of 160cm^2....

soooooo
C.

Area is proportional to the square of the linear dimensions, so when you quadruple the dimensions, the area is increased 4 X 4 = 16 times (choice C.)

(Volume is proportional to the cube of the linear dimensions, so quadrupling the dimensions increases the volume 4 X 4 X 4 = 64 times.)

I won't waste my time or yours with an explanation that has already been given.

The answer is C. The surface area increases by a factor of 16.

And these are hardly otherworldly thoughts, unless you are a fourth grader. For anyone in Advanced Placement Calculus, like myself, and hopefully for anyone who has taken geometry, this is a no brainer.
