I'm thinking of going with my daughter. How hard is it to find stones? She is only 7 and I am worried she will get bored if it is too hard.

We have been to the Crater several times. The diamonds can be found easily on the surface, however this is truelly rare. Mining diamonds at the Crater can be very hard work. However this all depends on the method of searching you choose. Obviously, if you will be digging, hauling, and washing, this is far more labor intensive. Another easier way is to slowly walk, and look for "sparkles". This takes time and a good eye. As far as a seven year old. Our daughter was exactly seven years old when we first started going to the Crater. Also, seven when she found her first diamond. We learned to keep it entertaining for her. Try a few different methods, depending on what fells like fun at the time. The Crater of diamonds is a great place, and anyone can find diamonds. Not everyone finds one, however all leave with the knowledge, and a wonderful memory. We have only two weeks until our next trip to the Crater of Diamonds. Also, we have pictures of some of our past finds we will mail out on request.

Good Hunting

Yes, I have been there and some days you find nothing but sometimes you really can find some small stones. In fact, just a couple of months ago a young boy found a rare stone that was very expensive.

My sister lives in Arkansas and says you can find little bits and pieces fairly easily. Do you remember the man who found a huge diamond several months ago. It was worth big money. Just tell your daughter, keep digging, maybe we'll find your college tuition...have fun.
