I'm blanking out on an essay topic about Taiwan -- writing about any aspect of Taiwan is okay (person, monument, event, etc) as long as it contains a superlative (i.e. something was the BEST/WORST). Any suggestions as to possible essay topics and research sources? (wikipedia is sadly not an option)

In Taiwan it is known as '228', and it is in reference to the incident or massacre that occurred on February 28 (2 - the month, 28 - the day), 1947.
The people, the event, and the monument are all there!
Truly it could be the worst thing to happen to the people of Taiwan so shortly after the Japanese occupation ended.
Just enter "228 Taiwan" in your search engine of choice!

The Republic of China on Taiwan is a government in exile.

For a government in exile, it (arguably) has the most complete legal code in the world today.
