Im going to go on the pill and i want to find out about what kind of questions the doctor ask, will i have to have any type of examination before being prescribed it, is there a pill that can stop my periods altogether as long as i am taking it? Any general information would be great. Thanks =)

Your age would have been helpful. Generally smears are not carried out below 20 years. If you are under 20 or had a smear within the last 3 years, no internal examination is needed.
The doctor will check your past medical history and family history. This is to insure that there are no contraindications to the pill or type of pill. He will take a smoking history, because pill risks are increased by smoking. He will also check your blood pressure.
THE PILL= The combined (Oestrogen/Progesterone) pill will tend to decrease the length and the blood loss of your periods.
THE MINI PILL = Progesterone only, will for 3-6 months produce dysfunctional (erratic) bleeding. However as time passes the number of women who don't bleed at all on this pill rises, reaching 60-70% by one year.

the doctor will ask about your medical history, any surgeries, allergies, smoking history, what your periods are like. you may get a pelvic exam and pap smear and std check. the pill is an excellent way to control and manipulate your cycles. you probably dont want to stop them altogether as that is difficult to do, but you can take the pills in such a way as to give you only a few periods a year. you need to bleed eventually otherwise you will have problems with constant spottng. tell the doctor you are interested in an extended cycle regimen birth control pill. having fewer periods will increase the contraceptive effectiveness of the pill, decrease your pms problems and result in less pain and blood loss during the bleeding times

There isnt a pill that will actually stop your periods all together but they can sometimes make them much lighter. The doc normally doesnt ask to many questions, they like to check your blood pressure though and you sometimes have to go for blood pressure check ups whilst taking the pill. They ask if you smoke and if you do they normally but you on the mini pill (progesterone only) but if you dont smoke they can normally put you on the combined pill. They do ask for family history into heart disease etc to make sure it would be right to give it to you and no they never give an internal or smear for prescribing you the pill.

hey well where do i start if i remember correctly they ask if anyone in your family has had blood problems ie clots or if you have had unprotected sex recently
but different doctors will ask different things so dont take any of these to heart and dont be scared what you may want to think about is what kind of pill do u want to go on i mean im up in scotland and im sure you will have the same where you are but there is now needles and patches you can get i got the needle and its not sore and it lasts for 12 weeks. if u want to know about stoppin ur period altogether then no 1 can give you the answer except your body different people different reactions

I've been on the pill for 3 years. When I went to my doctor he asked me about my family history, any conditions they had, he also asked me if I smoke, and he just took my blood pressure.
The pill can increase blood pressure and you need to go every 6 months to get it checked. That's about it really, very simple. Oh yeah remembering to take it on time every day is important too.
Its advised not to smoke on the pill and there can be side effects. Remember every body is different and each react in their own way to certain pills. It might take a few different pills until your happy with one.
I've been on Micrgynon 30 and haven't experienced any bad side effects. My periods are lighter and I have less pains and cramps.
If you don't need contraceptive pills there are other pills designed to lighten periods and decrease pains. Depends which you want. Don't worry about it, it's simple.

In Britain they dont do an examination to prescribe the pill. All they will ask if you have family history in DVT, blood pressure, stroke, headattack etc. They will take your blood pressure & put you on whichever pill the surgery prefers. For example, my surgery always tries you on cilest or microgynon.
You will have to go in for 6 monthly checks of your blood pressure & thats it. If you want to stop your periods, the best way in UK is the injection. It lasts for 3 months & you dont get periods. Speak to the doc to find which suits you.

this is Lee Ps wife answering you -you wont need an examination. there are many different types of pill, some will suit you some wont, you can stop periods by taking packs in succession but that is only really for a holiday or special occassion. Depo injection can stop periods - my friend hasnt had one for 12 years - but when i took it i bled for 12 months without a gap! the best bet is condoms so no STDS!

You will need to have a papsmear to get on birth control. Every single time in my life that I went on any type of birth control I had to get a papsmear. Generally that are not painfull just a little uncomfortable. You will probably also get a breast exam. The doctors might test for any STDs or other abnormalities. You can get on pills that have lower hormones. If you are prone to getting headaches, birth control can increase them. In my case the pill produced severe migraines daily. Even when we lowered the hormone levels in them. I had to completely get off of birth control because my body does not tolerate it. Also you might expect your breasts to grow. Not dramatically or overnight but they can increase in size. You also can gain weight. I was once on depo (that is the shot you get every 3 months). I never had a period but each shot I got I gained between 15 and 30 lbs. I had to stop that too because of the weight gain. If you are young, which I am thinking you are, you might want to go with a lower hormone dosage. You can ask the doctor about what he/she recommends or if you are going to a health department you might not be able to get what it is you want. I hope this information helps. Let me know if you want more info. I can only give you my stories as to what I have tried. Also birth control pills can clear up your complexion. So if you are trying to keep the real reason as to why you are on the pill you can just tell them that it is clearing up your acne and regulating your periods. I wish you luck!

your doc will just ask you your family medical history, the usual stuff. they will do a blood test and that's all. As far as stopping your period, you can just take your pill packets one after the other without a break. You will have to have a break every 6 months at least though.
This is all if you're in the UK.

There are all differnt forms of birth control pills and protection ex. ortho evra(patch), orth tri cyclen(pill) and deporvera a shot... Discuss them with your doctor.. You will most likely get an exam (pap smear) to make sure everthing is healthy.... There is a commercial on T.V. where it states you will get your period for 3 days or fewer with their pill... Try these websites
