I have a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, 2.7L base model that I bought with 106,000 miles on it. Its been well maintained from what I see. My question is: will it make a difference if I spend some extra $ on K&N filters that alot of people seem to swear by? I am *not* trying to turn my vehicle into a racecar, just want to squeeze out a little extra horsepower and better fuel economy out of it. Recommendations???

My son's s-10 had a k&n filter in it. Recently had oil changed and air filter. We were able to replace it with a cheap air filter. See no difference with gas mileage by doing this on his little truck. The K&N filters are expensive and each time they need cleaned you have to buy a cleaning kit to do the job and let it air dry. Time consuming and a bit more costly. My son's truck has 156,000 on it.

Don't expect miracles!

A cone filter (such as a K&N) will give a more sporty induction sound. It MAY give one or two extra BHP and it will improve fuel economy slightly.

Expect nothing from it and you may get a LITTLE surprise.

Don't worry about the milage - I presume this car has 6 or even 8 cylinders. That means it has worked far less than a 4 cylinder car. All of mine have been 4 cyl and I fitted a K&N to a car that had done 150,000 miles with a Honda 16v engine.

not going to achieve much hp or fuel economy goals but the reusability of the filters can save you a few bucks over time. They do breathe better than a stock filter but minimal gains are obtained without improving intake and exhaust capabilities from stock.

I hear K/N's have like some kind of a million mile warranty. So it would probably be a good value. Even if you don't gain HP it would be worth getting them extra MPG's

You probably get some minimal hp gain, but only on full throttle, and no fuel economy.
