Ive pretty much determined that the pain i suffer is from depression. Symptoms include mood swings, inability to focus, hopelessness, suicidal thoughts, irrational behavior, inward anger, wanting to be alone.
I dont think Prescription drugs are the answer b/c i dont like the idea of mind altering medicine. Im in high school so i know its common. Im out looking for help. Ne suggestions?
Serious ansers only please!

don't worry man :]
this is really common in high school.
i'm in high school too, and i'm a peer counselor.
first thing i tell those who talk to me and who are goin through similar things like you is that they're not alone :]
seriously, I'VE been there too.
i always felt like crap a while ago, and i think it's because i was holding too much stuff in and i didn't tell other people.
and like you, i realized that this wasn't the way i wanted to be or feel like. i figured that by sharing my stuff with someone i could trust in, it'd in a way "lift my burden" or whatever.
friends and family relationships could also affect the way you look at life.
you haven't told me much about your situation but if you want you could talk to me :]
im a pretty good listener, even on the computer.
i'm not gonna guarantee to solve your problems but i find that it makes me feel better when i talk to someone else about stuff.

Depression runs in my family big time. I know that excersize is a big help because it releases endorphins which naturally make you feel better. However I think that suicidal thoughts are a bit more serious. There are many anti depressants that are not mood altering at all. You wouldn't even know you are taking anything other than the fact that you feel better. One of them is Norpramin. You should talk to your parents and see a doctor. Tell him your concerns about the mood altering medicine.

If you have mood swings with irritability, it could actually be bipolar disorder...Either way, I'd consult somebody for help as depression is not something you can snap out of on your own.
If you still want to do something yourself, try and find the root of why you are unhappy.
It may be due to a chemical in your brain, or an actual reason. It could also be your perspective on how you view things.

i can totally understand how you're feelin and how hard it gets at times to deal with a depression cause i feel those exact same emotions and maybe even more for almost 4-5 yrs now and i havent taken prescription drugs or anythin not even therapy or none of that ever as much as id have liked to my family doesnt wanna believe/admit/accept that one of their son's is depressed and i last t hing i wanna do is get into an arguement with em that'll make me feel worse...neways im not sayin ive dealt with this depression well but i try and do wat i can to not get very down... i guess u should try to do stuff that relaxes u like hang out with friends or talk to ppl... dont keep ur feelings bottled up too long or you'll explode one day .... i guess the best u can do is keep urself occupied and busy with everyday actitivites..have faith in urself be more self reliant and true to urself ! i know its easy to say than do all this but man i wish i had a better solution so i could help myself too.... rite now im jus hopin this helps u ! good luck !!!

If you truly have some clinical depression, it is normal for you to not want professional help. That is your "affliction" speaking to you! Generally you CANNOT treat depression on your own without the tools to do that. One of those tools may be medication for a while. Another most definitely is a professional. Start with a medical doctor and let him advise if you should see a therapist.
Depression is a serious condition, that can affect you throughout your life; and may SHORTEN your life if left uncontrolled. Please get professional help, not much from us here at Q&A, we may be as fouled up as you. Good luck, seriously.

Well, identifying the problem is a big first step. This sort of thing is frequently caused by unresolved anger-- you may have someone or thing that makes you angry, but you are not in a position to confront it. Cognitive therapy is often useful in these cases, if you have access to a therapist. Art also often works really well, write or draw or make music-- something that lets you express and process your feelings in a way that is not directly confrontational of their object.

You might have some success with a psychologist, they only use talking kinds of therapy, no drugs. You might look at your life and try to figure out what has changed to make you feel this way and see if you can have some control over these changes.

Join an extra curricular activity or a sport if you're not in one, immediately. You need a moderated agenda of work and enjoyment to succeed. The activity should greatly help if it's something you like.
