I have mine from 1968 and it is 47 feet long. I keep it in a glass jar and it is a wonderful conversation piece. Then I have to get it out and show it off!! I have taught all the kids at church to make one. That's where I worked on mine ( sorry Lord) when I was about 7. I would fold all the pieces then take them home and add them on. I have some very vintage wrappers.

I use only the printed wrapper, noy the foil liner. Take a wrapper and fold it in half length wise. score it, then tear it only the folded score. You have 2 rectangle pieces now.
Fold in half, then fold again.now you have 1 tiny little strip 4 thickness.
take the right in and fold till it reaches the middle. then the left end till it reaches the middle.
Make several of these and link together by pushing one piece between the two folds. It will kind of look like ric rac when you are finished.

I used to make them with my cousins over 40 years ago.

We would to ask strangers for their wrappers if we saw them putting a stick of gum in their mouths. When we started, each of us had a single brand of gum and our chains were rather dull. (Mine was Beeman's and the red, black and white really stood out against the silver. The inner paper was actually white, but I traded with one of my cousins for her silver.) One summer we took all of the chains apart and merged the wrappers. It seemed to take forever to put it back together. After the merge, we just folded our wrappers in preparation of when we could get together to mix them again. We had each begun to chew only our designated flavors after the second year so we couldn't just pass the chain around to add our links. This project lasted for years and then we all just lost interest. I think we discovered boys. Whatever the reason our gum wrapper chain was forgotten.

Four decades passed and we never gave our chain a thought until my aunt passed away six years ago. A few weeks after the funeral, my cousins were going through her attic when they made a discovery. They stopped the cleaning and called the rest of the chain gang to get to the house as quickly as we could. It took several days for the nine of us to finally meet at my aunt’s house but we all saw the same thing when we got there. The trees around the perimeter of the yard were draped with our chain. When we were 10 through 14 we thought it was miles long, however, discovering it was only 2400 + feet was hardly a disappointment. We still keep it in the steamer trunk my aunt stored it in but we share it. In the last six years, that trunk has logged more miles than it ever did as a piece of luggage.

Sorry, however the paper only disolves in case you bite it and that i might guess it would not help your tooth. I guess it tastes exceedingly darn gross, too. i choose to advise you purely shop on with chewing the gum.

I used to make them all the time! I loved the colors, and I used to wear them as bracelets.
