please explain further: what type of machine are you using? do you have any features to help with this?
Also, are you trying to "turn" the corners or just run past the end of the block, then pick up the feeder bar and re-place? I think the latter is easier. You MUST remember whether your last placed stitch was the left side or right side so you can continue flawlessly. do your first side, and run the stitches past the corner by approximately the width that you will continue the other direction. then, just pick up the feeder foot, turn the fabric 90 degrees, don't bother clipping threads, just keep as little movement between the 2 lines as possible. Place the needle in the fabric while the foot is up, so you can nail it just right. After you place the needle, put the foot back down, and continue.

If you are going around a curved corner, like a figure 8, then you stop and pivot the material a small amount each time the needle goes in on the inside of the curve, or at least every few stitches. Go very slowly for the best results. Use chalk or some other marking system to help you figure out when to change directions.

If it is a square corner, then stitch straight to the edge of the letter, and turn the cloth 90 degrees and stitch over the last few stitches.

just before you have to make a turn, go slow, and when you get to the spot that you are turning at,stop, leave the needle down and pick up the foot, and turn the material, then put the foot back down and continue sewing

I don't have a zig-zag attachment for my sewing machine but when sewing around a sharp corner, turn the material when you are in the middle of the corner.

the main thing is to leave the needle in the down position and then lift the foot and turn the material, hope this helps.
