What good would a format do if you aint got an operating system disk?

Hi. Do you mean you do not have the OS disks? If you format you will need to reinstall the operating system. Get the disks first. Formatting is easy, but with out the disks you will have a paperweight. Once you have disks the command is just 'format c:".

Go to HP's website. The link I pasted below. It'll instruct you how to take care of your hard drive.

Put fdisk and format.com on a USB drive. Make the drive bootable, boot from it, and format away.

the only way is to get discs for it, sorry.
