I can absolutely solve this problem. Chrysler has a manufacturing problem with this particular vehicle involving the serpentine belt being thrown, especially when going through a puddle and or after it has sat and rained outside. You will need to contact a Napa or Carquest parts store and buy the Gates brand belt tensioner, idler pulley and updated belt kit. You will need to know which engine you have, the 3.0 liter being the most common. This kit contains a double sided belt that is the same size as the other, and a grooved idler pulley and belt tensioner so that the belt now rides in the grooves instead of on the slick pulleys. This has solved the problem everytime at my facility with no exceptions, and we went through what you were going through for several weeks when our customer kept losing the belt after going through dips with puddles of water. This will correct your problem.

All of the above may be true, but I'm thinking that a rather sudden load on the belt from the alternator and/or power steering causes the tensioner to retract and come back, whipping the belt. Turning a corner at low speeds with various accessories drawing current is when the belt comes off, as far as I can tell. I've never had it come off at speed. There hasn't always been rain or snow. I'm on my third tensioner (counting the original), the last installed by the Chrysler dealer.

This is a common problem on the 1996-1999 - it is caused by a misalignment of the pulley. The above link is the big fix, suggested to mechanics.
There is a double sided serpentine belt kit. Goodyear makes one and there are probably others. This is a simpler fix. I am having this installed this weekend.

A common problem! First make sure the splash shield is there and in good shape(plastic cover that covers the belt area underneath veh. Gates makes a conversion kit to solve the belt problem. it consists of new pulleys and belt. Local parts stores should have a listing for the kit.

it happens sometimes . but in most cases it is an alignment problem, most cases is the belt tensioner or ps pump, the tensioner is usually very slightly out of alignment and weak.

i own a repair shop, and basically they just told you this because they didn't know what was wrong with it,these vehicle don't have a problem with that, whats wrong with it is one of the pulleys is bad on it,that's what causes this to happen ,and you can buy those pulleys new at any advance auto parts store, and id also look real good at the tensioner on it,the spring may be getting weak on it,that too will cause it,but look at all your pulleys these things do wear out once in a while, good luck with it i hope this helps.

The only thing that could cause that is the belt tensioner isn't strong enough to keep tension on the belt.
