Good luck. Most won't, and that includes for home owners insurance, not just renters.

From what I've read, State Farm won't, but what I researched was homeonwers insurance, not renters. USAA is what I use, and they don't, but once again, this is homeowners.

Yes.

As a responsible owner of 3 different breeds of pit bulls during my life, I can tell you for a fact that you can get insurance. I did. And for almost 20 years I rented with my dogs, who have all since passed away.

You need to find an insurance company that does not practice breed discrimination. Look on the Humane Society website and do a google search for pit bull and insurance to get some leads, like this site:

http://www.mprgroup.net/misc/insurance.html

And this site is one of the many good sources for breed legislation:

http://www.napbta.com/bsl-bystate.html

and here:

The simple fact is that all dogs have the ability to bite or injure someone. Just because a dog is classified as a pit doesn't mean that it will ever do so. Breed discrimination is a real problem, and so is breed hysteria. People like Fred Astaire, Helen Keller and Mary Tyler Moore own(ed) and loved pit bulls. They are amazing dogs.

I remember when I was a kid, everyone was hysterical about dobermans. Every so often, another breed is selected for a witch hunt.

You may want to get your dog a "canine good citizen" certificate from the AKC (American Kennel Club). Sometimes that helps in getting your dog covered.

Some companies provide coverage with Pitbulls. You may want to try a website that compares multiple companies at once to get you the best price. I am paying less than ½ after I did. Make sure to put in the comments section of the quote that you have a Pitbull.

Farmers coverage renters applications do no longer ask in case you own a canines. Farmers criminal duty covers act of your pets. not in any respect volunteer any added options to an coverage corporation than what's requested for or mandatory.

renters insurance covers your belongings. It does not cover any harm that your dog may do to other people. That liability falls on the property owner, which is why so many apartments have breed restrictions, if they allow dogs at all.

Insurance on a pit bull would be exhibit A the there was foreknowledge of the dangers of a pit bull.

I would also try and use this as a leverage to charge you criminal as well as civilly.

I don't rent to pit bull owners, period. I would feel terrible if I allowed a pit into a neighborhood and a child was hurt.
